Welcome to the Sheffield University Drama Society website, where you will find information about our productions, news and events. Navigate through our website using the menu to the left.The Society normally stages three productions a year in the well-equipped University Drama Studio. It is generally acknowledged as one of the best societies in the region, winning many local awards. It undertakes a wide range of classic and modern plays, some of which are not often tackled by amateurs.
SUDS
has its origins in
the long-established Staff Dramatic Society
and retains close links with the University
of Sheffield, approximately half the
membership consisting of University staff, past and present, and their
families. It has been glad to attract many talented people from other
backgrounds and always welcomes new members into the Society.
Locally-based graduates of the University and current graduate
students are especially encouraged to enquire. We shall be delighted
to hear from anyone with an active interest in theatre - actors,
producers, stage-managers, designers (of lighting, set, costumes
etc.), front-of-house staff and scenery-shifters. All ages and all
levels of experience are welcome. Beginners can shadow
experienced members while they gain confidence, if they wish.
As well as performances, the Society arranges regular play-readings in members homes, theatre visits (e.g. to Stratford in the summer) and social gatherings such as parties and quizzes. Members receive a regular Newsletter which keeps them up-to-date with plans for forthcoming productions and all the societies activities. Find out more about our latest news and events here.
